The ArcLight Theater in Los Angeles is usually home to movie premieres -- like the one for 'In the Land of Blood and Honey,' which featured Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie on Thursday night -- but on Friday morning the famed film venue was in the vicinity of a tragic shooting. A gunman -- who was randomly shooting at passing cars on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles -- was shot and killed by police after apparently shouting, "Kill me. I want to be killed."
The shooting incident occurred at 10:19 a.m. PST on the corner of Sunset and Vine, a short distance from the ArcLight. Two people were reportedly taken to the hospital.
According to witness Oscar Herrera, the shooter hit a man in a Mercedes and a woman in a Toyota Camry, the latter of whom apparently "fled her car on foot."
Per a police officer on the scene, the shooter was "walking in the middle of the street and started shooting randomly at people and cars."
The ArcLight, which is home to many great film events, will host 'Young Adult' screenwriter Diablo Cody for a special Q&A on Sunday. In a post on the theater's Twitter page, ArcLight officials said it has not been affected by the shooting.
