Recordings of a series of interviews with Jackie Kennedy kept secret for nearly 50 years are about to be released, sparking speculation they will reveal her theories on who was responsible for President John F Kennedy's assassination and affairs they both had.
The interviews were conducted by historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr in early 1964 after the President's November 1963 assassination.
Mrs Kennedy ordered that the interviews, held at the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston be sealed, not to be released until 50 years after her death, but her daughter Caroline Kennedy has allowed the early release.
Mrs Kennedy died of cancer 17 years ago, aged 64.
The contents of the interviews are such a closely guarded secret that not even senior librarians are aware of the contents.
But speculation is growing that the tapes contain extraordinary claims by Mrs Kennedy that Lyndon B Johnson and a group of Texas tycoons were involved in the President's assassination .
The Daily Mail newspaper reports that Mrs Kennedy believed the southern clique organised the shooting, with gunman Lee Harvey Oswald a part of a much larger conspiracy.
Texas-born Mr Johnson completed Mr Kennedy’s term and went on to be elected president.
The content of the tapes will be turned into a book and the recording will also features in an American ABC television program.
ABC executives claimed the tapes’ revelations were ‘explosive’, the Daily Mail reported.
They are believed to include the suggestion that Mr Kennedy was having an affair with a 19-year-old White House intern, with his wife even claiming that she found knickers in their bedroom.
And they go on to reveal that she too had affairs – one with Hollywood star William Holden and another with Fiat founder Gianni Agnelli.[Source : au.news.yahoo.com]
