Hundreds of Indonesians rallied Tuesday to demand a district chief's resignation after revelations of his text message divorce to a teenage girl four days after their marriage sparked public outrage.

Aceng Fikri, chief of Garut District in West Java province, took 17-year-old Fani Oktora as his second wife in July. But Fikri, 40, quickly divorced her via a short text message, alleging Oktora was not a virgin when they married as he had expected. He said he spent about $26,000 on the wedding.

Students and rights activists in Garut spit and trampled on pictures of Fikri on Tuesday before burning them outside the local council building.

It was the second consecutive day of protests against Fikri, whose case came into the spotlight last week after a picture of the couple was posted on the Internet. On Monday, dozens of people rallied in front of his house and the council building.

Late Tuesday, the local council issued a recommendation for Fikri's dismissal, but the process will have to wait for a verdict by the Supreme Court.

Also on Tuesday, Oktora, accompanied by her lawyers, filed a complaint with police in the capital, Jakarta, accusing Fikri of domestic violence by holding her captive after the wedding and fraudulence for declaring that he was a widower.

A lawyer representing Fikri said they would file a complaint of defamation against Oktora, whom he said had signed an agreement saying she would not complain about the marriage.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reportedly discussed the case with West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan on Tuesday during a visit to the province.

Some Muslims believe in an Islamic ritual allowing men to end a marriage by telling their wives they divorce them. However, divorce by text message is uncommon in moderate Indonesia.

Britny Haarup, Ashley Key Search: Bodies Of Missing Missouri Sisters Found

Britney Haarup (L), 19, and Ashley Key, 22, were reported missing on Friday.

Authorities in Platte County, Mo., say officials have found the bodies of two women in a field after officials interrogated "a suspect in the disappearance of Britny Haarup and Ashley Key."

Holland said authorities "were led" to the area where the bodies were found by talking to the suspect in case, whom he did not identify.

"That individual is under arrest and in custody," he said.

Haarup, 19, and Key, 22, were reported missing Friday from after Haarup's fiancé, Matt Meyers, came home to find his 6- and 18-month old daughters alone and in the same crib. Relatives of the women said there was blood on the couch in the Edgerton residence, located about 35 miles north of Kansas City.

"The truck was gone, the girls were gone and Matt has some personal guns that had been missing as well. That is all he had to tell me, and I knew something was wrong at that point," the mother of the missing women, Taresa Haarup, told KCTV.

The Platte County Sheriff's Department said Sunday that authorities were speaking with a person of interest in the case and have executed two search warrants.

The missing truck was found parked on a gravel road Saturday, prompting authorities to search the surrounding fields. Although there were no signs of foul play, the truck was towed to the Kansas City crime laboratory to check for evidence.

The sisters' father, Paul Haarup, begged for his daughters' safe return during a candlelight vigil Saturday night that drew a crowd of about 70 people.

"Whoever has them, give them a phone, have them call us, put an end to this," Haarup told KSHB.
Family members fear the sisters were abducted. They said Key, the mother of a 4-year-old girl, had been running with a bad crowd and sought her sister's help turning her life around.

"That's why she came to Britny and Matt's house; to get help, to get out of that lifestyle. She was very serious about getting help," Cassandra Meyers, sister-in-law of Matt Meyers, told KSHB.
Haarup's fiancé said his daughters need their mother back home.

"Your babies love you and they miss you," he told The Kansas City Star.

According to Dareh Gregorian of the NY Post, Margarita Dominguez, a classical pianist, has a side business as a human billboard. He coined the phrase Bill-bods, which has become somewhat of a media wonder, taking off when the story appeared on WPIX-TV in New York.

Margarita, who has played at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, is renting herself out to sponsors and party planners who can use her body as a billboard. I met Margarita at Da Marino's, a piano bar in NYC, playing a classical piece of music one night and we struck up a conversation. The idea of using the human body as a billboard came to her two years ago while she was modeling.

She says, "When I am in body art people go crazy and they want to take pictures of me and blast it out to all their friends on Facebook. In this way company logos go viral. This is marketing at its finest and companies want to be represented by my beautiful walking Bill-bods." She is an entrepreneur and owns Skyblue Entertainment an event company with her business partner Mason Hunt who teamed up with Fernello Design to make it very successful.

Her Bill-bods business has been booming, allowing her to hire 20 models all available to display her clients' brand. Recently she appeared at New York Knicks star, Iman Shumpert's birthday party that was curated by public relations wizard Billie Mitchell. For that event, Margarita and another model sported Shumpert's uniform, which was painted on their bodies. It was nothing short of magnificent and was a huge hit.

"Walking around for an event for 500 people, with everyone taking pictures? I love it," Margarita says. "I am very comfortable with my body."

Man with ‘world’s biggest penis’ stopped at SFO security

A New York man known for his unusually large penis was patted down by airport security at San Francisco International last week after they questioned him about the bulge in his pants, he said.

Jonah Falcon, 41, who has been featured in several documentaries about the world’s biggest penises, was returning from a trip in San Francisco on July 9 when he was stopped at security by TSA agents who spotted something out of the ordinary hanging to the left in his pants, he said.

“They wanted to know if I had something in my pockets, and when I said no, they asked if I had some sort of growth,” he said.

When he replied that it was just his penis, they “checked the area around it” but didn’t frisk him too severely, he said. They also wiped his hands to check for explosive powder.

Falcon said the delay was mostly amusing to him and only delayed him for about 5 minutes. He said it was the first time his penis had caused a security concern.

“I”ve gone through the (airport scanner) before, and I wasn’t worried,” he said. “What was the worst that was going to happen — I was going to have to whip it out for them? I’m used to that. Sometimes when people ask me about it, if I’m feeling up to it, I’ll just show them.”

Falcon’s penis has been reported as 9.5 inches when flaccid and 13.5 inches when erect, according to Rolling Stone. He has been featured in documentaries on HBO and overseas and has appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He works as a video game journalist and as an actor with small roles in movies and television shows, according to his Internet Movie Database profile.

A spokesman for the TSA at SFO was not immediately available for comment. Falcon said the agents were “professional” about the security check.

“It was probably harder on them than it was on me,” Falcon said.

Ernest Borgnine Dead: Oscar-Winning Actor Dies At Age 95

He was a tubby tough guy with a pug of a mug, as unlikely a big-screen star or a romantic lead as could be imagined.

Yet Ernest Borgnine won a woman's love and an Academy Award in one of the great lonelyhearts roles in "Marty," a highlight in a workhorse career that spanned nearly seven decades and more than 200 film and television parts.

Borgnine, who died Sunday at 95, worked to the end. One of his final roles was a bit part as a CIA records-keeper in 2011's action comedy "Red" – fittingly for his age, a story of retired spies who show that it's never too late to remain in the game when they're pulled back into action.

"I keep telling myself, `Damn it, you gotta go to work,'" Borgnine said in a 2007 interview with The Associated Press. "But there aren't many people who want to put Borgnine to work these days. They keep asking, `Is he still alive?'"

And yet people put him to work – and kept him working – from his late-blooming start as an actor after a 10-year Navy career through modern times, when he had a recurring voice role on "SpongeBob SquarePants," became the oldest actor ever nominated for a Golden Globe and received the lifetime-achievement award last year from the Screen Actors Guild.

Borgnine died of renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his wife and children at his side, said spokesman Harry Flynn.

With his beefy build and a huge orb of a head that looked hard enough to shatter granite, Borgnine naturally was cast as heavies early on, notably as Sgt. Fatso Judson, the brute who beat Frank Sinatra's character to death in 1953's Pearl Harbor saga "From Here to Eternity."

More bad guy roles followed, but Borgnine showed his true pussycat colors as lovesick Marty Piletti, a Bronx butcher who, against all odds and his own expectations, finds romance with a wallflower in "Marty," adapted from Paddy Chayefsky's television play. Borgnine won the best-actor Oscar, and the film picked up three other awards, including best picture.

It turned out to be Borgnine's only Oscar nomination, yet it was a star-making part that broke him out of the villain mold. Borgnine went on to roles in such films as "The Dirty Dozen," "The Wild Bunch," "The Flight of the Phoenix," "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Escape from New York," but after "Marty," the veteran sailor's most memorable character appropriately came with the title role of the 1960s TV comedy "McHale's Navy" and its big-screen spinoff.

Mischievous con man McHale, commander of a World War II PT boat manned by misfits and malcontents, was far closer in spirit than shy Marty or savage Fatso to the real Borgnine, who had a cackling laugh and a reputation as a prankster.

Despite his big-hearted nature, Borgnine was typecast as a thug from the start, playing bad guys in a series of Westerns including Randolph Scott's "The Stranger Wore a Gun," Joan Crawford and Sterling Hayden's "Johnny Guitar" and Gary Cooper's "Vera Cruz" and Victor Mature and Susan Hayward's historical saga "Demetrius and the Gladiators."

Borgnine was playing another nasty character opposite Spencer Tracy in "Bad Day at Black Rock" when he auditioned for "Marty." In a 2004 interview, Borgnine recalled that Chayefsky and "Marty" director Delbert Mann thought of him as an actor whose lone screen specialty was to "kill people."

The filmmakers had hoped to cast Rod Steiger, who played the lead in the TV version of "Marty," but he had just landed a part Borgnine himself coveted – the bad guy Jud Fry in "Oklahoma!" Mann and Chayefsky flew to the "Black Rock" location to audition Borgnine, who showed up wearing a "cowboy suit, cowboy hat, three-day growth of beard, cowboy boots," the actor recalled. He even began the audition in a Western drawl before shifting to Marty's Bronx accent.

Borgnine said he knew immediately he had won over Mann and Chayefsky, and "Marty" charmed audiences who saw for the first time that he could play the teddy bear as well as the beast.

No one knew Borgnine could act at all – himself included – until he came home from World War II after his 10-year Navy stint. He enlisted in 1935, was discharged in 1941, then re-enlisted when the war began, serving on a destroyer.

As he contemplated what to do after the war, Borgnine's mother suggested acting.
"She said, `You always like getting in front of people and making a fool of yourself, why don't you give it a try?'" Borgnine recalled last year, shortly before receiving his SAG lifetime honor. "I was sitting at the kitchen table and I saw this light. No kidding. It sounds crazy. And 10 years later, I had Grace Kelly handing me an Academy Award."

Mann and Chayefsky also won Oscars, and modest, gentle "Marty" claimed the best-picture prize over big-budget contenders "The Rose Tattoo," "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing," "Picnic" and "Mister Roberts."
"Marty" made his career, but the success also brought complications for Borgnine.
"The Oscar made me a star, and I'm grateful," Borgnine said in 1966. "But I feel had I not won the Oscar I wouldn't have gotten into the messes I did in my personal life."

Those messes included four failed marriages, including one in 1964 to singer Ethel Merman that lasted less than six weeks.

But Borgnine's fifth marriage, in 1973 to Norwegian-born Tova Traesnaes, endured and brought with it an interesting business partnership. She manufactured and sold her own beauty products under the name of Tova and used her husband's rejuvenated face in her ads.

During a 2007 interview with The Associated Press, Borgnine expressed delight that their union had reached 34 years. "That's longer than the total of my four other marriages," he commented, laughing heartily.

Borgnine played a sensitive role opposite Bette Davis in another film based on a Chayefsky TV drama, "The Catered Affair," a film that was a personal favorite. It concerned a New York taxi driver and his wife who argued over the expense of their daughter's wedding.

Among Borgnine's other films were "Three Bad Men," "The Vikings," "Torpedo Run" and "Barabbas," "Ice Station Zebra," "The Adventurers," "Willard" and "The Greatest" (as Muhammad Ali's manager).

More recently, Borgnine had a recurring role as the apartment house doorman-cum-chef in the NBC sitcom "The Single Guy." He had a small role in the unsuccessful 1997 movie version of "McHale's Navy." And he was the voice of Mermaid Man on "SpongeBob SquarePants" and Carface in "All Dogs Go to Heaven 2."

"I don't care whether a role is 10 minutes long or two hours," he said in 1973. "And I don't care whether my name is up there on top, either. Matter of fact, I'd rather have someone else get top billing; then if the picture bombs, he gets the blame, not me."

In 2007, Borgnine became the oldest Golden Globe nominee ever, at 90, for the TV movie "A Grandpa for Christmas." It came 52 years after his only other Globe nomination, for "Marty," which he won.
He didn't win that second time, but Borgnine was as gracious as could be about it.
"Hey, I already got one," Borgnine said. "I was nominated and I think that's wonderful. You don't have to win them all."

Ermes Efron Borgnino was born in Hamden, Conn., on Jan. 24, 1917, the son of Italian immigrant parents. The family lived in Milan when the boy was 2 to 7, then returned to Connecticut, where he attended school in New Haven.

When Borgnine joined the Navy, he weighed 135 pounds; when he left 10 years later, he weighed 100 pounds more.

"I wouldn't trade those 10 years for anything," he said in 1956. "The Navy taught me a lot of things. It molded me as a man, and I made a lot of wonderful friends."

For a time he contemplated taking a job with an air-conditioning company. But his mother persuaded him to enroll at the Randall School of Dramatic Arts in Hartford. He stayed four months, the only formal training he received.

He appeared in repertory at the Barter Theater in Virginia, toured as a hospital attendant in "Harvey" and played a villain on TV's "Captain Video."

After earning $2,300 in 1951, Borgnine almost accepted a position with an electrical company. But the job fell through, and he returned to acting, moving into a modest house in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.
His first marriage was to Rhoda Kenins, whom he met when she was a Navy pharmacist's mate and he was a patient. They had a daughter, but the marriage ended in divorce after his "Marty" stardom.

Borgnine married Mexican actress Katy Jurado in 1959, and their marriage resulted in headlined squabbles from Hollywood to Rome before it ended in 1964.

In 1963, he and Merman startled the show business world by announcing, after a month's acquaintance, that they would marry when his divorce from Jurado became final. The Broadway singing star and the movie tough guy seemed to have nothing in common, and their marriage ended in 38 days after a fierce battle.
"If you blinked, you missed it," Merman once cracked.

Next came one-time child actress Donna Rancourt, with whom Borgnine had a daughter, and finally his happy union with Tova.

On Jan. 24, 2007, Borgnine celebrated his 90th birthday with a party for friends and family at a West Hollywood bistro. Still boisterous, Borgnine made a rare concession to age at 88 when he gave up driving the bus he would take around the country, stopping to talk with local folks along the way.

During an interview at the time, Borgnine complained that he wanted to continue acting but roles were tough to find at his age.

"I just want to do more work," he said. "Every time I step in front of a camera I feel young again. I really do. It keeps your mind active and it keeps you going."

21-year-old job seeker kills fraudulent recruiter for 300 yuan cheated

February 14, 2012, in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, a 21-year-old job seeker, sunamed Wu from Hunan Province, stabbed an employment agent, surnamed Shu in the same age, to death because he was cheated of 300 yuan by Shu.

Reportedly, Shu set up a stall to offer attractive employment opportunities at the roadside in Dongguan. Wu was attracted, and trustfully paid the service fee and medical checkup fee, totally 370 yuan (which might be all money in Wu’s pocket), as Shu required. But soon, Wu found out it was a scam. He did not have the job as Shu promised. When Wu asked for refund, Shu refused, and ignored him totally after giving him back 70 yuan only. On Feb. 14, the angry job seeker then stabbed Shu to death right on the street.

According to witnesses, Wu used a fruit knife to pierce into Shu’s throat first, and fresh blood spilled out. Shu threw a stone to Wu and then ran away, but Wu came after him after avoiding the stone. Shu however fell on the way due to the severe injury, and Wu stepped forward to cut to his throat again. “It was so horrible,” the scared witnesses remembered the moment.

When the local police arrived, Wu squatted down by a wall nearby, looking exhausted, and kept checking his mobile phone. The police then subdued him when Wu was off guard. Unfortunately, Shu was pronounced dead right at the scene.

Navy SEAL shoots self with gun believed unloaded

Police said a Navy SEAL is on life support after accidentally shooting himself in the head with what he thought was an unloaded gun.

CBS Affiliate KFMB reports that the unnamed 22-year-old was gravely wounded early Thursday at his Pacific Beach home while trying to convince a female companion that the pistol he was showing off was safe to handle.

The shooting left the sailor on life support at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, according to San Diego police. Authorities initially reported that the man had died.

The serviceman, who had been drinking with a woman at a bar before they returned to his residence, was showing her his 9mm handgun when the accident occurred, San Diego Police Officer Frank Cali told KFMB.

The man (who mistakenly believed the gun was unloaded) offered to let his friend hold the weapon, according to Cali. When she declined, he tried to demonstrate how safe it was by putting it to his head and pulling the trigger.

The sailor, whose name was not released, had recently graduated from the Navy's Sea, Air and Land Teams program, which trains elite special-operations tactical units.

In a statement, Commodore Collin Green said the Naval Special Warfare community is saddened by the incident and extends "our hearts and prayers" to the family in this difficult time.

Casey Anthony wanted treatment and book deal, forensic psychiatrist says

A well-known forensic psychiatrist who has authored a new book on Casey Anthony says he was approached by third parties to work on a for-profit book with Anthony, but declined the deal.

Dr. Keith Ablow instead said he offered to treat Anthony for free and in private, but his offer was turned down.

"She needs very competent psychiatric care," said Ablow, the author of "Inside the Mind of Casey Anthony," an in-depth look at the Casey Anthony case from the psychiatric and psychological perspectives. The book is published by St. Martin’s Press.

During a phone interview Wednesday, Ablow said he offered the 25-year-old woman confidential psychotherapy for free through the third-party contacts.

This was at a time, he said, when all parties involved knew Ablow was close to publishing his own book. He would not identify the third-parties involved.

"They thought I might do another one together (with Anthony)," Ablow said. He added, "I wasn’t averse to offering free care."

But the offer from the other side involved treatment with a "for-profit project," Ablow said.

"I’m not interested in a for-profit project disguised as help," he added. "I was not allowed an a la carte menu so I decided not to dine at the restaurant."

Anthony was found not guilty earlier this year of first-degree murder and other serious charges in connection with the 2008 death of her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony.

Ablow’s book offers a scathing look at deep psychological damages he theorizes Casey Anthony suffered by her parents. He also suggests Caylee’s death may have been a result of that damage.

Since her acquittal on the serious charges, Casey Anthony has disappeared from the public eye. But recent reports indicate Los Angeles-based Scott Sternberg Productions was pitching an interview with the woman for $500,000 to $750,000.

Casey Anthony’s local, civil attorney Charles Greene was not immediately available to comment on Ablow’s statements.

But earlier this week, when asked about potential money-making opportunities, Greene told reporters Casey Anthony was not trying to sell her story.

"Right now, Ms. Anthony is busy dealing with some very real losses, not only the loss of her child, but the loss of the rest of her family relationships, the loss of any opportunity to ever have a normal life," Greene said Monday, following a hearing involving one of his client’s lawsuits.

"She’s not out there trying to sell anything," said Greene, explaining Anthony is instead spending time "in reflection."

Ablow said Wednesday, "My hope is that she finds someone very talented to work with in a very pure way that has nothing to do with money, because she needs the help."

1976 Letter from Potential Partner Calls Steve Jobs a ‘Joker’ [VIDEO]

Steve Jobs will go down in history as one of the greatest tech innovators that ever lived, but according to a letter written by a Silicon Valley advertising executive back in 1976, he was a “joker.”

The letter — now archived at Stanford University — was written by Mike Rose, who headed up a small advertising agency in California. A friend of Jobs suggested he reach out to Rose to print the first-ever manual for the Apple 1 computer.

Rose wrote to his own business partner informing him that Jobs would be reaching out to him.

“This joker is going to be calling you,” Rose wrote. “They are 2 guys — they build kits — operate out of a garage.”

The note also alluded to Job’s notorious secrecy tactics: “Wouldn’t trust me. Told him we’d like to see what they’ve got. We’d estimate — then decide. Sounds flakey. Watch it!”

According to Bloomberg, Jobs and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak sought production help with the manual, which would have a logo of Issac Newton reading a book on the cover under a tree — not the iconic Apple image we’re used to seeing with a missing bite. But Rose’s offer was too high, so Jobs declined.

“The note is wonderful in part because it reveals how much Silicon Valley has changed in 35 years,” Leslie Berlin, project historian for the Silicon Valley Archives at Stanford University, wrote in the Bloomberg piece. “In 1976, two guys trying to launch a tech company from a garage in the heart of Silicon Valley were flakes. Today, someone in Rose’s position might well ask for a piece of the action — payment in the form of a small bit of stock, perhaps?”

Rose donated the letter to Stanford University in 1998.

Since Jobs’ passing earlier this year after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, he’s been awarded a Grammy for his iMusic contributions, and Barbara Walters recently named him the most fascinating person of 2011.

Former Warriors employee says Ellis sent dirty texts

A former employee of the Golden State Warriors, Smith filed a civil lawsuit against Monta Ellis and the Warriors, claiming a pattern of unwelcome sexual texts from Ellis and the Warriors unwillingness to act on the harassment.

A former Golden State Warriors employee has sued the team and guard Monta Ellis for sexual harassment, claiming the star player sent her dozens of unwanted texts that proposed sexual encounters, including a graphic photo of Ellis' genitalia.

Oakland resident Erika Ross Smith said in a lawsuit filed in Alameda County Superior Court Wednesday that Ellis began sending her explicit messages in November 2010 while she worked as the team's director of community relations.

Ellis allegedly texted Smith "several times in a single day, late at night or in the early morning hours," using a "secret" telephone that was kept by an equipment manager with the team, the suit claims.

The texts from Ellis included phrases like "I want to be with you," and "Hey Sexy," to which Smith responded with, "What do you want?" and "I am sleeping," the suit alleges.

Smith's attorney, Burton Boltuch, said his client's job description was abruptly changed after Ellis' wife, Juanika Amos Ellis, learned of the texts in January and complained to team executives.

Boltuch said Warriors' executives ultimately fired his client in an attempt to rid themselves of a possible sexual harassment complaint from Smith.

"She feared Monta," Boltuch said of Smith. "She knew if she said anything, the Warriors would choose to protect Monta, which is what they've done."

The Warriors disputed the allegations.

"When we were made aware of a consensual relationship between Mr. Ellis and the plaintiff, we did what an organization should do: We told both to stop promptly, directly and fairly," the team's president and chief operating officer, Rick Welts, said in a statement read to reporters in Oakland.

"The Warriors have never taken any action against the plaintiff for any inappropriate reason and we deny the allegations she is making," Welts said. He promised to "vigorously defend the reputation of the Warriors organization in the courts" and refused to answer questions.

At a press conference in Boltuch's Oakland office, Smith said she had worked in the NBA for fourteen years, previously with the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns. She said she was never harassed by any other player and was coming forward because she was unfairly fired.

"I loved my job," she said. "I loved giving back to my community."

Boltuch held up a photo of male genitalia which he said Ellis had sent to Smith in Dec. 2010.

"We don't care if it was his or not," Boltuch said. "But we know it came from him and he said it was his junk."

Boltuch accused the Warriors' new ownership organization of engaging in a "vast cover up" to protect Ellis. The attorney said his client was fired nine days after a local reporter texted her and asked if Ellis was "stalking" her.

After Smith told a Warriors' human relations manger about the reporter's inquiry, Smith alleges, she was told "that's not good," before she was terminated.

Ellis is the franchise's most recognized member outside of the Bay Area and widely regarded as the team's best player.

Warriors coaching staff had no comment on the suit at the team's practice Tuesday night.

In 2008, a season after winning the NBA's Most Improved Player Award, Ellis signed a 6-year, $67 million contract extension that made him the highest paid player on the Warriors.

In July 2010, he married Juanika Amos Ellis in Memphis, Tennessee. The couple has one son.

In a video produced by the NBA last year, Ellis said his new family had made him more focused as a player and reflected on his relationship with his wife.

"She was different from other women," Ellis said of his wife. "She didn't take no mess from me. She held me accountable for whatever I done."

Kim Jong Il, the second-generation North Korean dictator who defied global condemnation to build nuclear weapons while his people starved, has died, state media reported. A government statement called on North Koreans to “loyally follow” his son, Kim Jong Un.

Kim, 70, died on Dec. 17 of exhaustion brought on by a sudden illness while on a domestic train trip, the official Korean Central News Agency said. Kim probably had a stroke in August 2008 and may have also contracted pancreatic cancer, according to South Korean news reports.

The son of Kim Il Sung, North Korea’s founder, Kim was a chain-smoking recluse who ruled for 17 years after coming to power in July 1994 and resisted opening up to the outside world in order to protect his regime. The likely succession of his little-known third son, Jong Un, threatens to trigger a dangerous period for the Korean peninsula, where 1.7 million troops from the two Koreas and the U.S. square off every day.

“Kim Jong Il inherited a genius for playing the weak hand and by keeping the major powers nervous, continuing his father’s tradition of turning Korea’s history of subservience on its head,” said Michael Breen, the Seoul-based author of “Kim Jong Il: North Korea’s Dear Leader,” a biography. “We have entered an uncertain moment with North Korea.”

Jong Un, is at the “forefront of the revolution,” KCNA said in its official statement of the elder Kim’s death.

South Korea’s won declined as much as 1.6 percent to a two- month low of 1,177.35 per dollar and government bonds dropped after the news. The Kospi index lost 4 percent to 1,766.82 as of 12:07 p.m. in Seoul.

Lampooned by foreign cartoonists and filmmakers for his weight, his zippered jumpsuits, his aviator sunglasses and his bouffant hairdo, Kim cut a more serious figure in his rare dealings with world leaders outside the Communist bloc.

“If there’s no confrontation, there’s no significance to weapons,” he told Madeleine Albright, then U.S. secretary of state, in a 2000 meeting in Pyongyang.

Those words took on greater significance in 2009 as Kim defied threats of United Nations sanctions to test a second nuclear device and a ballistic missile, technically capable of striking Alaska.

The following year North Korea lashed out militarily, prompting stern warnings from the U.S. and South Korea. An international investigation blamed Kim’s regime for the March 2010 sinking of the South Korean naval vessel Cheonan that killed 46 sailors. Eight months later North Korea shelled a South Korean island, killing two soldiers, two civilians and setting homes ablaze. The act followed reports by an American scientist that the country had made “stunning” advances to its uranium-enrichment program.

Flight attendants petition to get "30 Rock" off flights

The NBC sitcom "30 Rock" lost some flight attendant fans after actor Alec Baldwin was kicked off an American Airlines flight when he refused to turn off his phone.

The Association of Professional Flight Attendants requested Tuesday that the airline remove the show from all flights after last week's incident at Los Angeles International Airport.

Baldwin was booted off the flight because he refused to turn off his cell phone after the plane's doors were closed for departure, the airline said.


The actor was apparently playing "Words With Friends," a Scrabble-like online game.

"We fully support the flight attendants and the way they handled the situation," spokesman Jeff Pharr said.

"The crew responded as they have been thoroughly trained to do so by the FAA as safety professionals onboard the aircraft."

Pharr added that the union would retract its petition if Baldwin issued an apology to the attendants.

"30 Rock," meanwhile, continues to air on some American Airline flights in accordance with its standard programming procedures, airline spokesman Tim Smith said.

The actor mocked American Airlines over the weekend during a cameo appearance on "Saturday Night Live," issuing an apology to himself while dressed as airline "Capt. Steve Rogers."

NBC declined to comment on Tuesday's petition.

Last week's incident prompted a flight delay and triggered a wave of comments on social media about the actor's behavior.

Pauley Perrette: Goth go-to gal on drama 'NCIS'

It figures that Pauley Perrette would excel playing forensic scientist Abby Sciuto, the Goth lab rat on CBS' crime procedural, "NCIS."

On the job in her high-tech lair, Abby is an information magnet and a bloodhound for clues to help crack the latest case with a link to the Navy or Marine Corps. And in the process, she's brainy, beautiful, charmingly quirky and totally gung-ho — which is to say, a lot like Pauley Perrette.

In its ninth season, "NCIS" (which airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST) remains a smash hit, averaging 20 million viewers a week. And even among its crazy-popular ensemble (including Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo, Sean Murray, David McCallum and Rocky Carroll), Perrette is a standout, having landed at the top of a recent Q Score roster measuring TV stars' fame and likability among viewers.

But in person, as herself, Perrette can even upstage her performance as Abby. Hear her jazzed accounts of a life that led from her Atlanta upbringing to a role on one of TV's hottest shows:

She describes her early-on aspirations: "to work with animals, be in a rock 'n' roll band or be an FBI agent."

She recounts her scramble in New York, where she moved to study at John Jay School of Criminal Science but worked several jobs at once to make ends meet: "Not only was I bartending in the club-kids scene, with a bra and combat boots and a white Mohawk, but I wore a sandwich board on roller skates passing out fliers for Taco Bell in the Diamond District, and I worked on one of these boats that go around Manhattan — way down in the galley, knee-deep in fish water, cooking food for the rich people upstairs."

She thinks back on the days of her own hard partying and substance abuse: "I've done everything. Everything! I can't believe I survived it."

And she reports how, along the way, the bartender broke into show biz: "A kid in coat-check told me, 'I know this director who would really like you.' I started booking commercials like craaazy."

Then she moved to Los Angeles, landing roles in shows such as "Murder One," ''Frasier," ''Time of Your Life" and "JAG," where a guest shot led to "NCIS" with its premiere in 2003.

Perrette is an unapologetic cheerleader for her show — and her character.

"I'm the biggest Abby Sciuto fan on planet Earth," she announces. "I mean, I didn't invent her. I just have the honor of playing her. She fascinates me."

For a recent interview, Perrette looks a decade younger than her 42 years, dressed in jeans and a green T-shirt that echoes her luminous green eyes. Her raven hair (dyed for the role of Abby from her natural blond) is in pigtails. If she looks short at 5 feet and 10 inches, it's because she isn't wearing Abby's towering platforms, but instead tennis shoes. She flaunts a radiant smile and a flurry of hands when she speaks — say, about the joys of acting.

"There's no drug that I ever did that worked as well as being an actor," she declares. "What you're looking for with substance abuse is escape. But with acting, you can escape into 1,000 different things without almost killing yourself doing it. Acting is a total drug!"

Meanwhile, she found her lifelong interest in crime a big help in her newfound acting pursuit — and not just for playing a crime-buster such as Abby.

"Even without having any acting training whatsoever, I spent my time studying human behavior through psychology, sociology and criminal science," she says. "I was a voracious student, and I ended up with the best background to be an actor ever, because I'd been studying human behavior in science for years and years."

That said, a question naturally arises: What drew Perrette to criminal science in the first place?

"I feel like life on planet Earth is incredibly hard," she begins. "There are things we just can't stop: floods and fires and earthquakes and tsunamis — crushing events for people to deal with. But I DON'T understand someone making the world more difficult on purpose, to harm people with no empathy whatsoever, saying, 'I'm going to make things even worse. Watch me!' That's the motivation for me wanting to be a crime fighter."

As Abby, she is. But when her fantasy life ends and reality resumes, Perrette slips into a different kind of role to make things a little better — that of do-gooder for a variety of causes.

"Giving back and helping other people is the most solid experience a human can have. To go to some high-end store and buy shoes or jewelry or something — I don't understand it. I would much rather donate my money to an animal shelter or a woman-and-children center — that gives me such joy and makes so much sense to me," she says.

"I'm very reclusive and love being alone, so fame is incredibly jarring for me. But it gives me a huge platform for the same things I was saying about giving back and volunteering when I was a bartender. And that makes me very happy."

She's also happy writing poetry, and performing rock music in a number of bands, and dreaming of future acting roles ("bring 'em on!") beyond Abby.

"I wear a lot of hats," says Perrette, heartily attempting to sum herself up. "I have a large hat rack."

Veena Malik, Pakistan Model, Poses Nude, Causes Fury (PHOTOS)

A Pakistani actress who posed in the nude for an Indian magazine with the initials of Pakistan's feared and powerful intelligence agency on her arm has triggered fury across this conservative nation.

Veena Malik's photo on the website of FHM India, in advance of its publication in the magazine's December issue, has been lighting up social network websites since earlier this week.

Many here anticipate a backlash, as nationalists and Islamists regularly stage rallies against anything they deem an insult to Islam or to the national honor. India and Pakistan have fought three wars, and the Inter-Services Intelligence agency or ISI has been accused of sponsoring terrorist attacks inside India.

Malik has broken Pakistani religious and national taboos in the past. She is a target for conservative ire and a heroine to some Pakistani liberals.

Conservative cleric Maulana Abdul Qawi declared on Aaj TV on Saturday that her latest venture into controversy was a "shame for all Muslims."

In an interview with Pakistani Geo television broadcast Saturday, however, Malik said the nude photo was published in violation of her agreement with FHM India and she was considering legal action against the magazine.

Malik acknowledged having been photographed for a "bold but not nude shot." She said the editor of the magazine had promised that he would cover most of the photo with the ISI initials.

The photo was intended to poke fun at the Indian fear of Pakistani spies, she said, adding "whatever happens (in India), people say ISI is behind that."

Magazine editor Kabeer Sharma said Malik had given full consent for the shoot and the picture.

"We have all the record(s)," he told the Pakistani television station. "Veena was very excited about that ISI idea."

Zubair Khan, a 40-year-old shopkeeper in the northwestern city of Peshawar, agreed, saying the photo had given rival India another opportunity to insult Pakistan.

"She has earned a bad name for the entire Pakistan nation," he said.

Others questioned the authenticity of the photo.

"It seems to be an Indian attempt to malign Pakistan by faking her nude pics, or she might have done it to get a cheap publicity," said Lubna Khalid, 38, a housewife in the southern port city of Karachi.

Twitter commentator Umair Javed however called on Pakistanis to "make copies of the picture and bury it in your backyard. This way, our grandkids will know there were some amongst us who lived free!"

Asked by reporters whether Pakistan would "pursue the matter" legally, the country's Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Saturday, "First, let us see whether it is real or fake."

Malik does most of her work in India. The entertainment sector there is booming, while Pakistan's is moribund. Her ties to Pakistan's archrival have landed her in controversy in the past.

During a much-publicized talk show appearance early this year, she lashed out her nemesis Abdul Qawi, who criticized her for having a scripted love affair with an Indian actor on an Indian reality show.

"What is your problem with me?" an angry Malik demanded of the scholar, who had accused her of insulting Islam.

Miss USA 2010, Rima Fakih, Arrested On Drunk Driving Charges

From the moment she received her Miss USA crown, Rima Fakih has been embroiled in controversies.

She initially grabbed headlines in 2010 when she became one of the only, if not the first, Arab American and Muslim to win the Miss USA crown. Hailing from Michigan since 2003, Fakih is a Lebanese immigrant who moved here when she was a baby and celebrates both Muslim and Christian faiths.

But despite the feel-good nature of her 2010 win, Fakih got caught up in scandal after scandal -- including a new one just last night.

TMZ reports that the beauty queen was arrested in Highland Park, Michigan on Saturday for suspicion of drunk driving. Fakih tried to deny the incident initially, tweeting on Saturday, "Let's clear things up now.... I'm NOT in Michigan and I'm NOT in jail! Wrong Fakih."

But Doraid Elder, her attorney, told the Detroit Free Press, "Unfortunately she was." The tweet has since disappeared and Elder commented that Fakih is "very saddened and very apologetic for the situation that she is in right now."

We should say so, given the trouble she's gotten in before. Just the day after winning the Miss USA title, Rima was exposed as a former pole dancer by radio show MojoInTheMorning.com, which posted photos of the pageant winner participating in the "Stripper 101" contest at a Detroit gentlemen's club three years earlier. She later came under fire for some late-night partying, which doesn't seem like a big deal to us but had some critics wagging their fingers.

Now she's actually gotten into trouble with the law. But her lawyer tells the Detroit Free Press that the arrest was based merely on "allegations." Further investigation by the Highland Park police will happen tomorrow.

Last meal: A death row convict gets ready to eat a bowl of green bean soup, McDonalds fries,burger and an ice cream.

The state-sanctioned death penalty in China is swift and brutal - a bullet to the back of the head.

China is notoriously secretive about the actual number of executions.

But pictures have emerged which, for the first time, reveal some aspects of what happens in a prisoner's last hours of life.

A civilian photographer was allowed into a Chinese jail on June 24, 2003, and took a series of pictures documenting the lives of four convicted drug traffickers, Ma Qingxiu, Li Juhua, Dai Donggui and He Xiuling.

The photographer stayed with them from 9pm until 7.21am the next morning - the day of their execution.

The pictures show the women choosing the clothes in which they will be executed, laughing and talking with guards.

Counting down: Two convicts, both sentenced to die, play cards with other inmates and joke around.

Some are more animated than others as they eat a final meal, hand over clothes for other inmates to wear and prepare for their final journey - walking shackled and in handcuffs into a concrete yard.

The pictures have remained secret until last week when they were published by Hong Kong broadcaster Phoenix TV.

The final pictures show the women walking into the execution ground.

One is held by a guard and is crying as she walks into the concrete yard.
