'I don't want to be too cut-off': Princess Charlene of Monaco braves the crowds at Paris Fashion Week

With all the scrutiny surrounding her recent marriage to Prince Albert, Charlene of Monaco would be forgiven for retreating from the spotlight.

But the new wife of Prince Albert has decided to 'maintain her independence' and not be deterred from attending high-profile events.

The stylish blonde, who was supporting designer Albert Kriemler at the Akris show during Paris Fashion Week on Sunday, admitted the attention she has received has been unwelcome but is adamant she will strive to live a 'normal life'.

The former Olympic swimmer's summer marriage was plunged into crisis when she tried to flee home following reports that Albert had yet another love child.

Since then, the South African has been pictured with her husband at several functions, attempting to quash any reports of relationship problems.

But Charlene, wearing an Akris dress, looked as though she didn't have a care in the world as she mingled with the fashion elite, sitting two places away from US Vogue editor Anna Wintour at the show.

Despite the revealing designs on the catwalk, the designer remains a friend and favourite of hers - she wore Akris to the British Royal Wedding.

But the dresses are obviously altered to suit protocol.

Charlene, 33, who turned up at the show with little security, told The Telegraph:'Honestly, I don't want to be too cut-off.

'I'm quite independent. I will (live a normal life) and do it my way.'

The athlete, like the Duchess of Cambridge, has been taking time out to enjoy married life until she decides on what her full-time position will be.

She has been busy learning French, which she admits has been a struggle, and trying to adapt to her new life.

Reports of Albert’s alleged philandering had driven Charlene, a former Olympic swimmer, to try to run away from Monaco three times before their wedding, which has led many royal commentators in France questioning whether the £55million wedding was a complete sham.
