Osama Bin Laden was shot in the head at least once by US Navy seals, according to NBC news, after what has been described as a brief exchange of gunfire.
President Obama said the location of the Pakistani compound where Bin Laden was hiding was confirmed last week, and he gave to order to proceed with the military operation against Bin Laden on Sunday morning.
US special operations forces took custody of Bin Laden's body and DNA testing has confirmed his identity.
During his official statement, President Obama reminded the American people that the fight against terrorism is not over just because Bin Laden is dead.
American's who watched the twin towers of the World Trade Center burn and fall are, expressing a sense of justice with the death of Bin Laden, known to be the mastermind of the September 11th attacks.
More than 3,000 people died after two commercial airplanes were used as missiles and flown into the twin towers. Hundreds of firefighters were killed in their efforts to rescue those trapped in the burning buildings.
President Obama said no civilians or American soldiers were injured during the mission that ended in the death of Bin Laden.
