SOME American drivers may not know the rules of the road, but we learned everything we need to know from Jeff Bridges in the movie Starman:
"Red light stop, green light go, yellow light go very fast."
Wait a sec, that's not right…
We're joking of course, but some people may actually believe that, because based on the results of the 2011 GMAC Insurance National Driver's Test, almost ONE IN FIVE licensed drivers today wouldn't pass a written driver's test! Scary!
To give you a better idea, that means that 36.9 million drivers in the U.S. don't have a sufficient knowledge of the rules of the road.
And people aren't just missing extremely complicated questions either. According to the GMAC test results, 85% of people didn't know what to do when approaching a steady yellow traffic light! And no, the answer isn't "go very fast!"
Fortunately, we're getting at least a little bit more knowledgeable, because the average score on the test went up from 76.2% in 2010 to 77.9% for 2011 so far.
This may not be an issue for you now, but keep in mind that if you ever move to another state, you're probs gonna have to take that written test to get a license, and if you don't know what to do when an emergency vehicle is approaching or who gets the right of way at a 4-way intersection, you're going to be in trouble.
Have U taken the GMAC test? If so, how did U score?
